This will sound like a strange question however..

From what I have read Marie Antoinette, this is just my opinion, it seems that she has very dry/sarcastic humor...

For instance when she fell off a donkey she said after falling she said


"No we must wait for Madame Ettiquite to show us to properly get on a donkey again!!"



Is there any source that mentions her sense of humor thoroughly?

I don't know if there's any book devoted to it, but I agree about her having a dry sense of humour. I think it was a clever one, too. I'm sure in her biographies I read lots of episodes like the one you mention.

In the biographies I've read of her, which I must admit I've yet to read more than a handful, I've always thought she tended to be sarcastic though witty on several occasions.

i am one who shares the same sense of humor of sarcasm and witty remarks. at times they get me in a lot of trouble back in high school, but i can't help it. and with that... i assume the queen was quite a funny woman! i'd have a blast if she were here with me.

Oh that makes me laugh. I to have a very dry sense of humor!

I never thought of it that way..I hate to say this but "Let them eat cake" is also an example of sarcastic humor.

She seemed like such fun! It's a pity that only a few people understood her humor.

I remember reading quite some time ago (I forget the source) that Antoinette and most of the ladies of the court found Benjamin Franklin utterly charming; he was the center of attention no matter where he went. His position of American Ambassador to France brought him to Versailles regularly, much to the Queen's delight. Antoinettte found particularly amusing the American habit of shaking hands as a form of greeting; Antoinette began the brief fad of shaking hands when one courtsan greeted another at Versailles.

Also amusing to the Queen was Franklin's hair. Franklin wore a very plain style (as did most American men); he brushed his hair softly back and held it in place with a small plain bow at the nape of the neck. This was a far cry from the powdered, curled and jewel-encrusted coiffures many male courtiers wore.

And then there was the giggling Antoinette who would turn the clocks ahead so Louis would retire, thus permitting her more time at the gaming tables. In my mind I can see her covering her growing smile with her fan as she innocently reminded Louis of the late hour and his early meeting the next morning. And I can see Louis, whose hobby was clock building and repair, entering his bedroom, noticing the correct time, shaking his head and smiing.

Haha! Those are quite funny facts! I think it's funny how she acted like such a kid, but in a good way. Just being very playful.
