I'm probably repeating someone, but French flea markets. That's where all the one-of-a-kind objet d'art are.

Post Re: 18th Century Furniture
I know that the originals are better, which is why they're much more expensive when you can find them, but I can't help myself, I prefer tasteful reproductions to the antiques. The bourgeois in me can't abide damaged goods, scratches, scuffs, faded upholestery, etc. For me it must be shiny and new, or at least look like it.

When searching for Louis XV and Louis XVI furnishings, keep in mind that few of the antiques being sold under these labels are original 18th Century pieces; particuarly in the U.S., these are almost always late-Edwardian era reproductions.

When searching for new reproductions, also keep in mind that sellers (especially on Ebay) frequently mis-label styles. I've found a lot of rococo style furniture under 'Victorian.' I've also found the opposite, with Victorian style pieces being labled Louis XV.

It's a chair from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and it dates from 1770.
