Post Re: Morbid Curiosities
I don't know that Casanova was quite that specific....

Here's the passage in English:
http://books.google.com/books?id=ZXFJML ... ns&f=false

Havelock Ellis has commented on this:
http://books.google.com/books?id=VrwRAA ... ns&f=false

But then the association between death and sex is hardly unknown. I was just browsing Kubler-Ross' book on grief and she has a whole chapter on sex and how it often plays some role in the grieving process.

We have had a horde of product spammers lately. We have been busy deleting here and there!
The best thing to do is to click the ! icon at the bottom right of the offending message. This sends a report to the moderator of the forum, then they can not only delete said message but the membership of the poster.
Thanks Baron.

quote
Anyone done any reading or know of any books to recommend on the Sanson family?
end quote

Lily how morbid can you get ? stick to Jean Plaidy and Mills and Boon !

(mind you... speaking of morbid.... Mme Tussaud going to the graveyard
to make plaster casts of the severed heads... including Marie Antoinette's head.... that's morbid... and taking commercialism a little bit too far !)

To know the details, morbid or not, is to seek the truth of a situation.
As I said before, man's inhumanity to man is something I find fascinating!
I think you were being funny Silverstar - although on first reading your post I could take it in a way that is saying - girls should stick to the sappy romance novels - which I do not read! If I am going to spend my time reading, I want the truth, not some sugar coated romance trash. So, no thank you - I will not read Plaidy or Mills and Boon!

Barbara Levy's book could be a good starting point for information on the Sanson's. I thought it was a good read! One very good question that arises from Levy's work - Why, in all the murder and mayhem that was taking place - did no one ever turn on the executioners?

Well I think that in the 18th century that would have been seen as cowardice and it was important to be seen to "die well". After all the executioner was just doing his job and there was no chance of escape.

Gee...you'd think that raping women and murdering children would be considered pretty cowardly as well, but that didn't stop it from happening...go figure.

Sorry Baron, it's just an expression we use here in the States!
Go figure = Who'd figure - sorta like WTF.
