Post Marie Antoinette cover story of Vogue (US)
While I was in the store over the weekend, the September issue of "Vogue" (US edition) caught my eye. Kirsten Dunst is on the cover dressed for her role as Antoinette and there were two articles on La Reine. One was a bio and the other on her fashion.
As I read the bio, there wasn't anything I didn't already know. The fashion article was so-so. There were only 2 movie stills and the rest of the pictures was of Kirsten dressed in all these different gowns.
Nice browsing but it's "Vogue" magazine.

There is some new commentary on the Vogue article on author Elena Maria Vidal's website.

Thank you Therese. :) But I don't like the photos with Dunst, who is incredible.

Yes, I think that the photos are nice, except that they have nothing at all to do with the true Marie-Antoinette, as the article says.

I have been trying to ignore the Sofia Coppola film since I think it has nothing to do with the real Marie-Antoinette;

Ah it's a big pleasure to know that others think like us :wink:

Was anyone else put off by Miss Dunst's hairstyle on the cover? I know the popular ways of wearing hair then were far from sensible, but this one looked awful, just messy.

And pink everywhere! Does Sofia Coppola realize that we had other colors in the eighteenth century?

*facepalm*

<hugs>

The photo where MA looks Louis XVI at the balcony is a big cliché!

I agree, Athlynne. The hairstyles are atrocious and innacurate. And that pink!! Oh la la!!

Although what Kirsten Dunst shows is completely not a real Queen Matie Antoinette, I still want to have a careful read of the lattest Vogue which is not issued in Mainland China...a bit of pity :wink:
