Post who could make the best movie about Marie Antoinette?!!!!!
In my opinion Gérard Corbiau could make the most magnificent movie about her life.

He made a movie about Jean Babtiste Lully and his life at Louis the XIV court.

Le Roi danse.

and Farinelli

In my opinion the best period movies of all time! :D

What do you think, and who do you think could make the best Marie Antoinette movie?

Gérard Corbiau could make a good movie but my only concern would be it being too " stately" as one critic put it for Le Roi Danse. Corbiau's theoretical film could further perpetuate the " frivolous, haughty queen who didn't care about the welfare of her people". Thus making her too icy: when her story needs to be told about a thinking and feeling individual in her own right. Also, the unique circumstances that she was placed in as a result of being must be taken into consideration. All of these factors including the most historical accuracies possible must be incorporated into a film. That is my opinion. I apologize for such a verbose post.

That is no problem, I'm not discouraged at all. People have their own opinion but I don't think that Corbiau would show her as the evil queen but as a human, a woman and neither as a Saint or a devil! :angel12:

Did you watch those movies? I never had the feeling of Le Roi danse being to stately but spot on. In my opinion those movies were sensual and emotional  goosebumps

Anyways it would be a thousand times better than Coppola's Version of boredom. :|

I am of the opinion that perhaps a relatively unknown filmmaker could make the best movie concerning our very dear Marie Antoinette.None of the movies so far depict an accurate story of her life.Has anyone noticed that most of the movies concern themselves with the fashions of the day and nothing much more?????

I wouldn't say L'Autrichienne or La Revolution Francaise did. Even the 1938 MA was not entirely fashion orientated, despite the Fersen story. The scene of her separation from Louis-Charles is heartbreaking.

I agree with Délicate fleur. The only movie, as I recall, where everything revolved around fashion is "Marie Antoinette" from 2006.
Although I have to say that the movie interpretations about Antonia's and Hans Axel's relationship don't bother me in the slightest. We don't know for sure.
There are strong hints but no exact proof, as far as I know.

For example:

To BelleReverie:

Hmm, I'm not sure if an unknown and inexperienced Director would be the right choice
to direct an opulent and witty period -drama.
Movies like that require a lot of money to pay the actors, for costumes,film-locations,sets, equipment and staff.
To find somebody to finance such a big project is almost impossible if you are an unknown director.
The financier's would take to much risk. The possibility for this movie to be a disaster is just simply higher with an inexperienced director

Orleans87,you are quite right.
I did read on a blog(I forgot the name) that Sofia Coppola is considering producing a film based on the life of Marie Therese.

Mon dieu!
I hope this is just a rumor!
OK, I was very fond of her movie "Lost in Translation" and I anticipated the movie about Marie Antoinette but was totally disappointed, even shocked.
I hope Coppola seriously thinks about the critic she got for "Marie Antoinette" and lets daddy lead her by hand through all steps of movie-direction. :naughty:

However, I also heard that she ignored warnings and advices from people who know much more about history and directing, so I guess, she just doesn't give a damn.

Oh, I just read that the movie had a budget of $40 million and has grossed around $61 million and was the under-performer of 2006 for Columbia-distribution.

So, maybe she will listen to advice the next time. :argue:

Is it really another answear than us?
We would be accurate, we would not have the fersen story. We would have all of her children.

Though we would probably be pedantic and never finish it.

I also think it needs to be parted into 2 movies, the first one from the marriage until the birth of her 3 first children, because this period was a rather happy period of her life.
And the second beginning with the death of Sophie and Joseph, and follow her to her own death.
To think that she spent 6 out of 37 years in prison... really, one has to tell people that!

6 out of 37?

1789 to 1793 at most, and that's if if you consider the Tuileries a prison...in a certain sense I guess it was, but a gilded one.
