What a fun topic! I'd like to travel back invisible, so that I do not disturb history as I watch it unfold in person. So many places and times. Paris in the 1770s, including Versailles. Alexandria, Egypt in the 30s BC, Rome in the 100s AD, New Orleans in the 1850s, St. Petersburg, Russia in the 1900s, then on to Berlin and Paris again in the 1920s.

I would spend time in San Francisco and London in the 1960's (my other favourite era) and of course 1760-1785 in Paris.

I would go to Versaille when MA first arrived and get to know her. I hear that she was a lot of fun and she seems like the kind of person I would like to be friends with. Than I would skip ahead to right before the revolution began and kidnap the royal family and bring them to Austria.

I am with Christophe, I would probably chose to be invisible if I went back in time. Mostly due to the fact I am a 5'10 woman, and since I would be going back to a time when the average height for a woman was 5'0...I am afraid I would alarm everyone.

I would love to spend sometime wondering around Versailles, perhaps in 1770 when Marie and Louis were newly weds, and just observe what a day in the life was like for them, as well as Louis XV and Madame du Barry. If I got to see the Revolution, I would try to somehow save the Princess de Lamballe from her tragic fate; her violent death has always disturbed me.

But I would probably want to spend more time in England around the Duchess of Devonshire and her group of society friends; attend the dinners hosted for the Whig party; watch the plays of Sheridan; visit the City of Bath. It all sounds frivolous, I know.
