Post The alleged "switch" of the Madame Royale
In Susan Nagel's book on Marie-Therese: The Fate of Marie Antoinette's Daughter, she hints that after Marie-Therese escaped the confines of the prison she was switched with her half-sister (an illegitimate child of Louis XVI) in order to preserve her safety. Nagel goes onto say that the real Madame Royale lived in seclusion away from the public eye, whilst her half-sister was the one who was the face of the Bourbon restoration and the woman whom we see in the painting of an older Marie-Therese. I don't know whether to dismiss these claims, purely because I didn't know Louis XVI had any illegitimate children, but at the same time when we compare paintings of a young Madame Royale with her adult portraits, there are worlds of difference. From the hair colour, to the shape of her nose! Oh I don't know, it could all be a grand conspiracy I guess!

What are your thoughts on the subject? :help:

I hate being "that person" but I figured I could direct you to the answer. It seems the members discussed both the possibility of Louis XVI's fathering an illegitimate child and the possibility of a Madame Royale conspiracy in the latter pages of this thread.
