Yes, she was a freemason, too. Caroline was like Joseph, much more intellectual than Marie-Antoinette.

Caroline was diffrent from Marie Antoinette...

Yes, the sisters were very different, in many ways. But they were devoted to each other.

 Other monarchs on Louis XVI
even without being freemasons, other monarchs had a reason to want Louis XVI to be ineffectual and weak - gives them an advance in political moves. Joseph II, in particular, seemed prone to act on the assumption that France is weak and won't interfere in his ambitions. and was surprised again and again by Louis XVI.

 importance of foreign affairs
this is particularly important since until the revolution a king's main and primary job was to conduct his country's foreign affairs and wars, as well as deal with religious questions. Louis XVI, according to the recently found letters with Vergennes, saw foreign affairs as his main job, and on this he did remarkably well, as people here pointed out.
