Tahnk you, Jules, it's a very interesting article ! And "witty" for qualifying our princess de Lamballe... it's good to read that, for so many writers portray her rather... stupid ! It's one of those few points I am in disagreement with Simone Bertiere, she thinks Madame de Lamballe was "insignificant". In my view, she was not... She was Grande Maîtresse of all French Lodges, after all !

Ah it is necessary that Bertière is criticable!
But I agree I also think that Lamballe played much Versailles and on Marie-Antoinette: a great friendship, and a function of surintendante of her considerable house

Madame de Lamballe was a very intelligent and cultured lady, without being a bas bleu like Madame de Genlis or Madame de Stael.

Madame de Lamballe was born Princess of Savoia-Carignano, a branch of the Savoy family. She was born in Turin in 1749: her father was Luigi Vittorio, Prince of Savoia-Carignano.

Here you can see the palace were she lived till 1767, when she married the Prince of Lamballe

Not bad, isn't it?

This palace is in cicty centre of Turin, where I live :) Unfortunately after 1799 the palace was transformed by Napoléon in the seat of Repubblica Cisalpina, and beginning from 1861 it was used as the first Italian Parliament. That means that we cannot see the ballroom anymore, as it was a very big oval hall that was transformed into a genuine political arena :( :( :( That's a pity!
