 Comtesse Marie-Josepha de Provence
Hi everyone,
Just wondering if any of you know who the Comtesse de Provence's lovers were (if she had any). I especially interested in the ealier years of her life (before 1780 or there about)
Thanks.

Hello, I don't know about her, but this is a good website about her life:

There is a mistake in the website... the father of the Countess cannot be Victor Amadeus II, as he died in 1732! I think se was the daughter of Victor Amadeus III.
Perhaps I have a booklet with some portraits of the young Countess of Provence and of the Counteff of Artois.
I have to check in my book collection

Et voilà! I found the portrait of a very young Countess of Provence. A copy of this portrait was also sent to France in order to present the young bride to her future husband and relatives. The portrait was painted in Turin by G. Duprà and it is shown in the hunting palace of Stupinigi (in the surroundings of Turin)

Thank you for this beautiful portrait Vittoria Francesca Savoia!
Indeed we recognize the future physical characteristics of Countess of Provence! Especially the mouth, the chin and nose!

She was especially reported to be hairy, to never bathe nor use scented waters, which offended Mercy !

I've read that the French ambassador in Turin asked to Vittorio Amedeo III, her father, to beg her for washing teeth and face

Oh my God ! Could it be true ? I hopes this was a legend... They said that, we she arrived in Versailles, she had never bathed...

Ah it was not easy to have physical defects during this time... the rumours and the exaggerations went quickly

 Ugly or not!
The picture is beautiful thanks for putting it up. Though she's not particularly attractive I don't think she was ugly. I would also imaging that the courtiers could be quite harsh when it came to beauty as that was practically the only asset (besides sewing and music etc) that a woman could have. I would imagine being at court would be a bit like being in Hollywood where thin and ugly are often used on people who are just normal.
