 drugs?
In Sofia's Marie Antoinette film, friends at one of Marie's parties were showed snorting cocaine. Did Marie do drugs for social reasons or what not?
the movie might not even be relevant to the subject...

it angers me that they put things like that in books and films...why lie about it? to make the movie more "fun" and geared at younger people i guess.
its pretty disrespecting.
thankyou for clearing that for me

It was at her birthday party, and to the OP, it wasn't cocaine, it was snuff, which was a form of tobacco. I thought you guys would have known that...

I did too, Maria Antoinia... except, perhaps, some sweet nature scenes in the gardens of trianon...
... although some surfers said that it looked like a national geographic documentary !

Yes the movie did at least TRY to show a human side to the Queen but, I think they showed her a little to human. I mean she was th Queen of one the most famous and mighty nations of the world France!

I don't think cocaine existed in the 18th century...but snuff was the "social drug" of the day. It was fashionable to appear in society with a snuff box: the larger and ornate the box, the higher the social rank. some snuff boxes were real works of art.
Frederick the Great had a famous collection of snuff boxes (some are now on display in Somerset House in London. They look truly amazing).
I've read somewhere that Napoleon also liked snuff.
I've never read anything linking Antoinette or her close friends to snuff.

I didn't notice that part of the movie. BUT I absolutley loved the movie. Actually it has inspired me in many ways, and I have watched it 3 times in the last 3 days. I just love the way they portrayed her, a woman with class and sympathy. A mother, a woman with marital problems, a woman who wanted to live life. In fact I downloaded the soundtrack, and now as I listen to the music from the movie, I think of Marie walking through the gardens or dancing at the masquerade ball. Wonderfully done.

And... she didn't even drink wine - so why use anything else that would make her head spin?
